China’s respect of human rights continues to deteriorate. In 2011 we saw a crackdown on all forms of dissent.
This year, China’s government will undergo a leadership change. And as we lead up to it, the situation for those who are seen to oppose the Communist government is becoming increasingly precarious.
Lawyers, religious leaders, artists, writers, bloggers and political activists have all been victims of illegal house arrest, beatings, torture, imprisonment, harassment of family members, loss of employment and disappearance.
Many of these brave human rights defenders remain under house arrest, in prison or are missing. Christian lawyers, some church leaders and religious personnel are affected.
